Having Way Too Much Fun!!!

Hey everyone! I have some more exciting adventures to share with you! Remember to scroll ALL the way to the bottom, to see all the new pictures!
In January, a had the privilege of visiting with my main sponsors; The Franklin Noon Rotary. As I was preparing to leave Martin, I had some vehicle trouble and was worried I wouldn’t get to Franklin! Thank goodness I have some amazing friends who always seem to rescue me! A big “Thank you” to Matthew Spry for being my chauffeur for the day! You are such a good friend, Spry!

Spry and me at Rotery

Before Rotary, we made a pit stop at Kelly Azevedo’s so I could put some last minute ‘fixing on my outfit. Kelly told me she had a surprise for me BUT, I had to wait to get to Rotary to find out what it was. We finally arrived and my momma was there, waiting for us. She drove up from Georgia to share the day with us! I was so excited to see her that I nearly cried. After enjoying a nice lunch, Gavin Moon, Rotary president - and now, someone I call “friend” - presented me with a check for my MRTN scholarship. I have been humbled and honored to represent the State of Tennessee and the Rotary club, as Miss Rodeo Tennessee!
With Kelly, and Gavin receiving a scholarship Check

The club has been such a big support to me this year and I really appreciate all their efforts! I am blessed to have such amazing people behind me! The scholarship money came at a perfect time and I couldn't be more thankful. I would like to thank everyone in the Franklin Noon Rotary club for all their support! This has been an incredible year! Thank you for giving me the chance to represent you and the great State of Tennessee.

My next big adventure was in February. Off I went to Kissimmee, Florida, for the week of the “Silver Spurs Rodeo!“ While there, I had the opportunity to meet some of the 2011 Queens, for the first time. Among them were; Miss Rodeo Florida, Sammy Roberts - Miss Rodeo Idaho, Tricia Crump - Miss Rodeo Nebraska, Becky Grimm - Miss Rodeo Oregon, Mackenzie Carr - Miss Rodeo Montana, Lorissa Harris - Miss Rodeo Iowa, Heidi Gansen and Miss Rodeo Illinois, Brooke M‘lynn Owen. These new State Queens are an awesome group of girls and I had a lot of fun getting to know them. Also on hand for the fun was Martina Wardle, Miss Rodeo Utah 2010 - who, like me, is one of the few state queens who doesn’t give up their crown in January - Martina and I had a blast together in Las Vegas and it was so much fun to see her again! Also there to brighten up my life was my Las Vegas roommate and sweet friend, McKenzie Haley- who just happens to have won the title of Miss Rodeo America.

The roality visiting Florida

The trip started when Ms. Regina Roberts, Miss Rodeo Florida's mom, picked me up at the airport and graciously opened up her home to me and four other state queens. Ms. Regina put Tricia and me back in our own little man cave, (or in this case, Queen cave) and we enjoyed it very much. Sammy, Becky, Mackenzie Carr and I traveled to various events the next couple days. We made many school visits, promoting the Silver Spurs Rodeo and we had a blast! I love making school visits, spending time with all the little ones while sharing the sport I'm passionate about. That evening we ate at Me Maw's diner and had a girls night.

Becky, MacKenzie, MeMaw, Sammy, Tricia and I, after MeMaw fixed us a great lunch!

On Wednesday, Lorissa flew in and she and I moved houses. We had the opportunity to stay with 2010 Miss Rodeo Florida’s (Heather Hall) parents, Julie and Mark Hall. Mrs. Julie and Mr. Mark were kind enough to open their home to us. It was great to see them again! I had a chance to spend some time with them last year and really enjoyed it! I also had a blast getting to know Lorissa!

Me and Lorissa with a little fan :)

On Wednesday night we went hog hunting. Wow, what an adventure! I've never experienced anything quite like it. It started off slow and we didn't think that we were going to catch a hog. After walking forever and almost giving up, the dogs started to go crazy and we heard the hog squealing. We took off in the direction of the hog and the dogs had it bayed up. I got to tie the hogs legs (good thing for that goat tying experience!) while my Vegas roomie, MRA McKenzie, taped it. It was thrilling and one of the most unique adventures I’ve had. We took a lot of pictures and loaded the hogs in the back of the truck. We didn't kill the hogs, the boys put them in holding pens at their houses and sell them. Thank you to Hunter, Ethan, and Brandon for taking us hunting!

Hunter teaching me how to tie a hog.

After a long night we finally made it back to the Hall's. We were whooped and had to be up early the next morning. Thursday brought more school visits and a tour of the sheriff's office. We were treated to a demonstration with the police dogs! It was so awesome….and a little intimidating to see! Those dogs are so smart and talented. Thank you Mrs. Laura Lynn Kessler for setting it up! That afternoon, we had more fun on an airboat ride! I couldn't believe all the alligators we saw! I knew their were gators in Florida but I never realized how many, and what little amount of water they live in. After we saw a gator that was about 10 foot long I swore I'd never go wading in Florida waters again. I was glad we went hog hunting BEFORE we went on the airboat ride because, after seeing all those gators, I would never have tromped around in the swamp!  Needless to say, both adventures were awesome and I'm very glad we got to go

The very large gator that we saw on our airboat ride.
The next day Mrs. Julie let us use her car to go to the beach. I drove and Lorissa, Sammy, Becky, Tricia, Brooke, Mackenzie (Oregon) and Heidi piled in, and off to the beach we went. We had as much fun on the way there as we did at the beach! We wrote in the sand and played in the water, soaked up the sun, and enjoyed each others company.
With Becky soaking up the sun

We grabbed a quick lunch and headed home to get ready for the rodeo. Miss Laura Lynn made sure all the State Queens had horses and, after we were introduced, we all did a “hot lap” each night. We also made visits to the sponsor booths and signed hundreds of autographs for the little fans. What a wonderfully run rodeo! On Saturday Lorissa and I had some free time and we made a trip to Gatorland! It was amazing to me to see all the gators, especially the white ones.
The white Gators
I really enjoyed my adventures in Florida. It was one of the best trips I've had the opportunity to go on. Mrs. Laura Lynn set the entire week up, and worked very hard to accommodate all of us. I sure appreciate all her hard work. A huge thank you to Mrs. Julie and Mr. Mark and to Mrs. Regina and Sammy, for opening their homes and being so nice to us. Thank you Sammy for toting us around everywhere we needed to go, and Mrs. Julie for letting us take her car!!! We had such a nice time and they were so accommodating.

Lorissa and I at Gatorland

My next adventure brought me to the Tennessee High School Rodeo Challenge, March 11-13, in Memphis! I rode with some of my favorite Martin folks! Thanks to The Brooks Clan, Keith, Katie, Ashley and Tyler for the transportation and for taking care of me while I was there! Tyler even let me use his horse, Dollar! The Brooks’ have been such a big help to me this year. Their kindness and generosity has not gone unnoticed by me, or my family. Thank you for all you do for me!

Me and Ash working on our roughie skills
Each performance of the rodeo, I helped in the grand entry and got to carry the hot lap flags. It was a pleasure working with Tennessee High School Rodeo Queen Aubrey Joines. She and Katie did a great job with the Opening at every performance! I was glad that I got to see Ashley compete, she did a great job and I was really proud of her!
Katie and me before grand entry

Miss Tennessee Junior Rodeo, Summer Weldon, and her family were also on hand to help out! It was great to see them again, and get to work with Summer. She is an amazing young lady, and has a very bright future of being a rodeo queen. Can we say “future Miss Rodeo America?“ Her parents, Mrs. Beth and Mr. Cameron supplied me with a room while we were there and I appreciated it so much! My mom even got to fly in for the weekend and spend time with me! I was glad she got to come. She loves to take pictures and got some pretty cool shots! We also did a little shopping.

Sweet Summer. Miss Tennessee Jr. Rodeo
While shopping, we met Sydney Caen. This fourteen year old entrepreneur started her own business making western jewelry, halters, belts, purses and more! She even custom makes items. She is making me a very nice halter, to remember my time as Miss Rodeo Tennessee. When it is finished, I will put a picture of it on my blog! I am so excited to get it! Sydney and I also talked about “queening” something she may want to participate in someday! I’m sure she has a bright future ahead of her!

This weekend (March 19-20) is the Miss Rodeo Tennessee Clinic. I’m looking forward to being a part of the hosting team, at the clinic. I also get to travel to The DNCFR in Oklahoma City and Pocatello Idaho! Then in April, we have the University of Tennessee at Martin, home rodeo! May will bring the Franklin rodeo and the crowning of the new Miss Rodeo Tennessee. If anyone is interested in running, please go to the MRTN web sight, for information! I will update again soon!

Whew... What a ride...

Hello everyone! I must apologize for taking so long to update my blog! I have so much to catch you up on, so let’s just jump right in!

Flowers, from my Aunt Debbie

In November, I was able to go to Davie, Florida for the Southeastern Circuit Finals! I had a great time with some of the “other” queens! Miss Rodeo Florida, Heather Hall, got chauffer duty picking up Miss Rodeo Arkansa, Synda Lockard and me, in Orlando. We were hosted by Heather’s family for the night and had a wonderful visit with her parents and each other. The next morning, we were on a road trip to Davie! We had a great time riding in the grand entry, visiting with fans and friends and helping with the award ceremonies! Mrs. Hall treated us to lunch at a little restaurant on the water. We ate well, enjoyed the sun and fed the fish! Thank you, Mrs. Hall for your hospitality. You truly made the trip special!

Me, Synda, and Heather at the Circuit Finals
Next up, my VEGAS Kick Off Party! The party was hosted by Kelly Azevedo, in Franklin, Tennessee. We ate some good food provided by Shane’s Rib Shack, listened to some good music by some of our very own local boys, from Bethel University, had a silent auction and I modeled some of the clothing I would be wearing in Vegas and I gave my Vegas speech. I want to thank everyone who attended and supported me! Your support has meant so much to me, this year! Thank you as well, to everyone who donated door prizes and items to the auction!

Me, David, and Chels at my Kick off party

Me and the BEST mom ever!
Finally, the time has come to go to Las Vegas for the Miss Rodeo America Pageant! What a packing nightmare! Thankfully my Momma works for the airlines so we were able to check LOTS of bags! We had to ship many boxes, as well. We sent them to my sister’s in Los Angeles because we were nervous that the hotel might misplace them! The day before Thanksgiving Momma, Daddy Joe and I, flew out to LA and enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving meal with sister Rayne and her husband Scott. The next day, we loaded up her car and headed to Las Vegas. We looked like the Beverly Hillbillies going down the road! We had so much stuff packed in that little car! We got to Vegas just as my brother and my best friends flight landed! We dumped the stuff at the hotel, picked up Nicoda and Bethey, then back to unpack! Yikes! What a job! The next day was a free day for me, so the family and I went to see Las Vegas. We had a great time! Sunday was check in so we once again had to move all my “stuff” to my new room. All of us girls had a room mate (they were chosen alphabetically) and mine was Miss Rodeo South Dakota, MaKenzie Haley. It would take 200 pages to give you a daily list of everything we did so I’ll go for the abbreviated version! When we checked in they made us hand over our cell phones and computers. Ugggg! Hardest thing I ever did! LOL! From then on, we had very little contact with family and friends. We were able to visit them at certain events, or wave at them across the room but that was about it! We had to be up bright and early everyday for a very full schedule, that included rehearsals that ended pretty late at night. The competition included; horsemanship, modeling, interviews, speech, impromptu questions, lunches, dinners, breakfasts, media interviews, photogenic…I get tired again just thinking about it! The MRA folks did a great job! The productions were all Vegas style shows and so much fun! We had magicians and animals, singers and dancers! I was very impressed with all they put into it!

Even my fashion diva sister, Rayne, was totally impressed with our fashion show! I’m not much of a dancer but I got my feet to cooperate with the rest of me and pulled it off! I didn’t win the Pageant but I did win an amazing experience, memories that will last a life time and some wonderful new friends!

My sister, Rayne, and I after the fashion show at the Miss Rodeo America Pageant

I am proud to say that my room mate, MaKenzie Haley, was crowned Miss Rodeo American 2011! She will do a wonderful job representing Professional Rodeo, this year! I can’t wait to see her again in Tennessee! I need to thank a some people for their support, in Vegas. Momma for all her hard work, Daddy Joe for all the sacrifices he made so I could go, Kelly and Manny Azevedo for ALL they did, and continue to do for me - My sister, Rayne, brother Nicoda, friend Bethey, friend Chelsea and Gramma Barb, for coming to Las Vegas and cheering me on!

I was very excited my Grandma Barb got to come!

Dad Joe and Barb are from South Dakota so, if I couldn’t win the title, they were glad a South Dakota girl took it! All the girls did a great job representing their states and I am proud to call them ALL my friends! My reign as Miss Rodeo Tennessee, will continue through May. There is still a lot to do! I will do my best to keep you updated!

August and September...the Adventure continues!

Here I am. Back in School. My very last year in college! I am both excited and a little bit sad. I have a challenging few months ahead of me. Along with a full load of classes, I will be student teaching, working, participating with the rodeo team and of course, preparing for Las Vegas! I want to take just a few moments to sincerely thank all of you, who have gone above and beyond, for supporting me in so many ways. A special thanks to Kelly for loving me, pushing me, laughing with me and believing in me! Okay, here goes….

It was a crazy, busy and fun summer. I have so much to catch you up on! This could take awhile, so get comfortable! First off - August

I’d like to congratulate Miss Summer Weldon! Summer is the newly crowned Tennessee Jr. Rodeo Queen. I believe she will do a great job representing Jr. Rodeo. I had the opportunity to be a judge for the first time, at this pageant. I have to say, it’s not an easy task! The contestants did a great job. It was very exciting to watch these young ladies! Thank you Katie Brooks for asking me to come, and to the Jr. Rodeo committee for allowing me to be part of the rodeo! It was inspiring to watch all these young athletes compete in a sport they love! There is some serious talent coming up through the ranks! Ashley and Tyler Brooks sure put in great performances! It was great, as always, to see Kelly and Manny Azevedo. I also had the pleasure of sharing duties with my Teen counter part, Lauren Burner and the Tennessee High School Rodeo Queen, Aubrey Hodges! It was also awesome to get to judge alongside my momma! I’m very grateful that she is willing to help out in so many ways.

On to the Portage County Randolph Fair! I was born in a little town in Ohio. Growing up I had the privilege of participating in 4-H. Fair was the highlight of every summer! I showed pigs, cows and of course, horses. I try to go back to that fair every August, to visit and see old friends! This August I was invited to be a part of the opening day ceremonies. It was so special to go back to a place that helped shape who I am. It’s the place I got my love and interest in agriculture and rodeo. Their amazing committee comes together every year to put on one of the best fairs ever! It was so much fun to be introduced to a crowd of people I had grown up with! I got to give a speech and help with some of the equine events. I also got to see one of my good friends drive his car in the demolition derby! It was great to see and visit with, some family and friends. Thank you Debbie Heppe for inviting me to come, and to the whole fair board committee for pulling together (once again) such a great, family fair! Many of my family members came out to see me; including my Grandma Jan, my Aunts - Debbie, Kathy, Beckie and Patti, my Uncles - David and Louie, some of my cousins and dear friend Dr. Theresa Heibel with Jesse and Riley! I also got to visit with my Grandpa Andy and spend some much needed time with my Dad, Mark. Thanks Dad, for all you do. I appreciate you! I had the best chauffeurs in the world! Thanks to Pamm and BFF Bethey for dragging momma and me all over! Finally, congratulations to the 2010 Fair King and Queen, Benjamin Ryan and Sarah Allen!

The end of August brought the start of my school year, as well as the “Spaghetti Western” fund raiser! We had a blast! The fund raiser was held in Martin, Tennessee at the American Legion. We had food, an auction, fun and of course the Mr. Rodeo Tennessee pageant! I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time! Before I give the details I want to say a HUGE thank you to all of you who came, all of you who donated auction items and all of you who bought those items! The trip to Las Vegas and everything involved with it, is (as dad Joe would say) “very spendy.” The fund raisers are a crucial part of my getting their and being prepared. Without the help of my sponsors and supporters, it wouldn’t happen. Also presented that night was a sponsorship check, donated to the UT Martin Rodeo Team, by the Franklin Noon Rotary Club! They have been a consistent sponsor of scholarship funds! NOW for the fun! The Mr. Rodeo Tennessee Pageant. Wow. What a bunch of good sports! Our nominees where; Mr. Russ Finey, Mr. Keith Brooks, Mr. Greg Hensley, Mr. Joe Pratt, Mr. Nelson Davis and Mr. Manny Azevedo. These men had to compete in horsemanship, personal interview, trivia and talent. I am pleased to say that only one of our contestants got thrown off his stick horse and that most of our contestants could keep their stick horses in the correct lead! Oh, the talent displayed! Air Guitar, Poetry, Acting, Roping and more! We judges had such a tough decision! Our judges were; from the Miss Rodeo Tennessee committee, Mrs. Kelly Azevedo - from the Jr. Rodeo Committee and the UT Martin Boosters, Mrs. Katie Brooks - from the Martin Rodeo Boosters, Camille Higgs - Miss Teen Rodeo Tennessee, Lauren Burner and me. The Tennessee Jr. Rodeo Queen, Summer Weldon helped with events and Momma did the announcing. Much craziness and hilarity ensued! If you didn’t get to come, you missed way too much fun! Our 2010 Mr. Rodeo Tennessee crown went to Mr. Greg Hensley, with Nelson Davis and Russ Finey, our runner ups! Thanks also to Coach John Luthi and Steve Taylor for being good sports when they were drug into the fun! I am blessed to know all of those who came and call them friends! A few more thank you’s….Camille, without your help we could have never gotten all that work done! David Pruitt, friend, UT Martin Rodeo supporter and Auctioneer - you did a great job! Kelly, who is just always there and momma for the planning the night….and dad Joe for flying all the way from ND to be there, for one night! I love you all!

Finally, we come to September. Over Labor Day, I was invited to be a part of a Rodeo in Kensington, Georgia. It was held at the Cove Arena and the stock contractor was again, friend Ed Lepper and Lepper Livestock, from Summerville, Georgia. Man Ed! Those bulls were doing some serious bucking! Thanks to Melissa Jones for allowing me the use of her horse! Once again, I had the privilege of visiting with rodeo fans and pushing steers. The fans at this rodeo where some of the most enthusiastic I have encountered! I signed autographs until I had finger blisters! Thankfully, Momma was there with lots of back up autograph sheets! The rodeo was sponsored by Ronnie and Susan Millican. They put together a fun and entertaining event! The rodeo was a fund raiser for their church youth!

The end of September brings the beginning of my college rodeo season! After many injuries and disappointments, I am looking forward to a good year! God is good and has blessed me in many ways! We have a few more events coming up before Vegas, baby! One of them is a Vegas kick off party, November, in Franklin, Tennessee. Stay tuned for details! I hope to see ya’ll there! Remember to scroll ALL the way to the bottom of this page if you want to see all the pictures, new and old!

July....in a nutshell

Wow. I have so much to catch ya’ll up on! I’ve been on the road for three weeks, had a blast, some heart break, much fun and now I’m ready for a very long nap! There are LOTS of new pictures up...but you will have to scroll all the way down to see them all. OK, let’s start with the PRCA rodeo in Savannah, Tennessee on July 9-10. The temperature was hot and so were the performances! Charlie Lowery from 4L Diamond S, in Summerville, Georgia was the stock contractor. Charlie is a great guy and very accommodating. I was able to take two of my colts and allow them to get a little “out and about” experience. Charlie allowed me to help push cattle and, as both colts are rodeo green, it was a great experience for all three of us. I had a great time visiting with fans and trying my hand at riding the mechanical bull! The bull won.

A few days after Savannah I headed off to Colorado Springs for “Pikes Peak or Bust.” I had to fly into Denver but my bags flew into Colorado Springs! Thankfully my friend Michelle lives in Denver! She picked me up, fed me, gave me the grand tour and then was kind enough to help me find my globe trotting bags and drop me at my hotel in COS! Thanks Michelle! Of course, the rodeo was fun. I must admit, my favorite events were mutton bustin’ and the stick horse race! The kids were so funny! Rodeo is about the fans and these young fans had a ball! I think I had as much fun as they did! I got to help the young riders and the racers! After the rodeo we signed autographs and did some visiting with the fans. A big “thank you to Becky and Rochele Littrell for all their hard work organizing! Thank you ladies for allowing me the pleasure to be there! Our escort was Mr. Tom Greiner. I was very excited to see him again. We met at the Greeley Stampede. He did a fantastic job taking care of us!

Next up was the “Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame” induction ceremonies. What an amazing experience to see it all first hand! Congratulations to bareback rider, Paul Mayo - saddle bronc rider, John Mcbeth - bull rider, Denny Flynn - stock contractor, Bennie Buetler and bullfighter, Rex Dunn .If you haven’t had the chance to visit the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame Museum, you don’t know what you’re missing! While in Colorado Springs I had the pleasure of rooming with Miss Rodeo Florida, Heather Hall - Miss Rodeo Missouri, Erin Watts and Miss Rodeo Iowa, Jordanne Blair. I love those girls! We had so much fun!

When the rodeo was over it was time for a little learning. Many of the State Queens were in attendance at the Miss Rodeo America Clinic. I had an opportunity to meet all the attending queens. What a great group! The MRA clinic was a worthwhile experience. We worked on public speaking, interviewing skills, modeling (I said I could ride a horse. I NEVER said I could walk…let alone do it with grace!) horsemanship (that’s more like it) and a variety of other skills. I learned tons! Thank you to Tracy Damrell, the MRA president, Ms. DeAnna Power, Ms Raeana Wadhams, the Executive Director of Miss Rodeo America, Inc. and our current Miss Rodeo America, Kelli Jackson for all their hard work! Also a huge thanks to all the faculty of the PRCA who took the time to give us tours and help us better understand the way things are run. We also had wonderful and informative clinicians who came and spoke. They helped in so many ways! Look out Vegas, here we come!!!

OH YA!!! The Daddy of Em’ All!!! Cheyenne Frontier Days. Need I say more? I had the privilege of staying in the beautiful home of Daryl and Esther Moore. They were my fantastic host family and made me feel so at home! Miss Esther also escorted the State Queens at the rodeo and helped organize all of us girls…now that’s a job!!! My housemate for the stay was Erin Heffron, Miss Rodeo Wyoming. Erin is a very sweet and hauled me around all weekend! Thanks Erin! I also was fortunate to meet Mrs. Arlene Kensinger. She not only helped organize the State Queens, she also provided a fun lunch and a lovely place to eat it! Her house was like visiting a western museum! A special thank you to Miss Frontier, Rachel Shutter for the beautiful picture frames and an awesome luncheon. And a huge thank you to the Cheyenne Frontier Days committee for letting all the Queens visit! I really did have much fun and stayed very busy keeping up with all the activities and completing online classes for college.
There is so much to tell about Cheyenne I can’t possibly fit it all. Here are a few of the highlights.
*Meeting and spending time with other State Queens - such a great group!
*Dinner with the (drum roll please) amazing Mr. Greg Hensley from Dan Post Boots
*Getting to see Brooks and Dunn on their farewell tour
*Cowgirls of the West, luncheon and style show - thanks Joleen Stancezyr for sponsoring my lunch!
*Flipping pancakes in downtown Cheyenne for the pancake breakfast
*Riding in that big ole’ parade and doing fly bye’s on that Cheyenne track! Thank you Mr. Vold and his crew for allowing us the use of their beautiful black horses
*My Gramma Barb and Grampa Dave for trekking from South Dakota to make a surprise visit!
* SHOPPING!
*My Daddy, Momma and Weeny visiting me
*Meeting and signing autographs for ALL those fans! I still have writers cramp!

From Cheyenne, I flew directly to Ohio. I had a few very stressful days when my best friend “Weeny” - my little dog - became ill. Fortunately, one of Momma’s best friends is a small animal vet. She lives in Ohio so Momma took little Weeny to see Aunt Theresa. I was going to go home for a few days and catch up but plans changed. I had to be in Ohio for the weekend (fund raiser and PRCA rodeo) so I just got there a few days early. My little girl didn’t make it. We gave it our best shot and Theresa went above and beyond but in the end, God needed Weeny back. Broke my heart and I will always miss her.

Putting a smile back on your face isn’t always easy but with the help of some of my “human” friends, we got it done. I was blessed by friends (and 2nd Mom’s) Pamm Herchek and Tara Warner as they put on a fund raising party for me! We held it at Dianne’s Mane Event in Rootstown, Ohio. Thank you Dianne so much, for opening up your business to me! We had food, drinks, western photo art and Gold Buying by Southeast Gold Buyers! It was all great fun! It was a blast seeing old friends and family again! I got to see BFF Bethey, Brooke, my little sister Dani, who goes to college in Columbus, Ohio, my Gramma Jan, Grampa Andy, Aunt Debbie, Erica and Rachel (the other little sisters) Aunt Beckie, Pappa Lou, their stinkin' little weeny dog that is too cute for words and so many more! Thank you all for your support!

That same weekend, there was a PRCA Rodeo in Tiffin, Ohio. Thank you Ed Lepper Livestock out of Summerville, Georgia, and J Bar J out of Montana for allowing me to visit! I really enjoyed those Ohio fans! One of the highlights was meeting the National Guard men who were helping out! I have to say, the bulls were really bucking that night!!!

I have a little time off now to play catch up, work and complete more online homework and classes! School will be starting again soon and the UTM Rodeo team will be in full swing! I would like invite you all to a great night out in Martin, Tennessee. I’m adding the invitation and I hope to see you there! Until next time, Happy Trails!

Franklin Noon Rotary Banquet and the Greeley Independence Stampede!

On Wednesday, June 30, I had the honor of attending the Franklin Noon Rotary Banquet, in Franklin, Tennessee. A great time was had by all, including me! The Franklin Noon Rotary Club is one of my biggest supporters and host of the annual Franklin PRCA Rodeo. The food and company was outstanding and I had the opportunity to make some new friends. My new friend, Gavin Moon was installed as President of the Rotary Club. Gavin is a lot of fun and will make a great President! Thank you all for having me as your special guest!

Way too early the next morning, I headed off to the airport on my way to Greeley, Colorado, to attend the Miss Rodeo Colorado Coronation and to join in the fun at the Greeley Independence Stampede! What a blast! I had some flight issues getting there but arrived just in time Thursday for the “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” night of the rodeo performance. The next day saw me up bright and early to get ready for brunch, with the 2011 Miss Rodeo Colorado Contestants. Colorado is one of the States that has a “Lady in Waiting,“ meaning the young woman chosen, Miss Kelsey Purdy, will hold the title in 2011. She will have the opportunity to go to Vegas with current 2010 Queen, Kasie Pigg and enjoy the festivities while learning her role as future reining Queen. The brunch was great! I enjoyed the food and fellowship while meeting all the contestants. Then it was off to the rodeo grounds for another performance. While at the rodeo I met Mr. Bennie Beulter, a long time stock contractor and 2010 Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame inductee! I’m excited that I will get to see that happen as I will be in attendance for the induction ceremony, later this month!! The days performance was a blast! Next we’re off to the Coronation Ceremony. There was a great fashion show put on by the contestants, a fun dance routine and questions! Then….drum roll please….the crowning. CONGRATULATIONS Miss Kelsey Purdy! What a sweet, competent queen she will be! That brings us to Saturday and the biggest parade I have ever seen….small town girl here. I’m used to one fire truck, a politician and the local boy scout troop. This parade felt like it was the size of the entire state of Colorado, and I believe every person living in Colorado was there! My cheeks hurt from smiling for so long and my waving arm definitely got a work out! After the parade it was back to the rodeo grounds for another fun performance which brought an end to my visit. I was off to the airport to catch the red eye home! Yawn! Again (and I must say “probably the best part of being MRT) I made many new friends! The current Miss Rodeo Colorado, Kasie Pigg, was very sweet and I am excited I get to see her again in a few weeks! I also visited and had fun with, Miss Rachel Kelderman, Rachel is the 2010 NFPB Queen (National Federation of Bull Riders.) Thank you to Miss Rodeo Colorado and The Greeley Independence Stampede for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of so much fun! A special thank you to Nyla Bristow for the super hospitality! I am excited to visit again! I will post some pictures from Greeley, very soon! I did indeed have a wonderful time celebrating our nations Independence. Thank you to ALL of our service men and women who make that possible. A great big thank you to my brother, Nicoda Joe (that's him above, just returning from Afghanistan) and my cousin Justin for loving me enough to keep me safe! Next stop: Savannah, Tennessee for the PRCA rodeo! See ya’ll there!

My first month as MRT

Wow. I am Miss Rodeo Tennessee! What an honor to represent the State of Tennessee! I would like to thank everyone who is helping me on my journey to vie for the prestigious title of Miss Rodeo America....with hopes of becoming the first ever to hold that title from Tennessee! Thank you to; The Franklin Rotary International - Greg Hensley at Dan Post Boots - Bunk House Leather - Mary Kay Cosmetics - Air Specialists of Middle Tennessee- The Cowboy Store of Franklin - Montana Silver and The Franklin Rodeo for their support! Thank you as well to William Rosen for my pictures! A special thank you to Kelly and Manny Azevedo. I'm not sure how I could do all this without their help! I will keep ya'll updated on my sponsors. Financial support is important and needed. Please know I appreciate each and everyone who is helping!

I had no idea how much work goes into being "Miss Rodeo Tennessee" but I'm having a blast! It all started with Franklin Rodeo, where I was crowned. The Franklin Noon Rotary Club out did themselves putting on this PRCA rodeo. Stock contractor Sparky Dreesen with J Bar J, from Montana provided great stock and Ed Lepper, from Georgia brought the high buckin' bulls!

Then on to practicing speeches, how to walk and ride pretty (I ride rodeo, walking and riding like a queen is a challenge!) clothing fittings, and curling this massive amount of hair! LOL! In short, I'm learning to look and act like a girl!

Next stop was the Tennessee High School Rodeo Finals in Cookville, TN. I was joined there by Miss Rodeo Teen Tennessee, Lauren Burner(Who I adore). We had the honor of crowning the 2010 Miss High School Rodeo, Aubrey Hodges. Then it was on to Dickson for more fun! Thank you to Mrs. Kelley Shattuck for the use of her horse! The stock contractor 4L Rodeo Company, out of Georgia, brought out great stock. I had a little free time before and after the performances to practice up on my ropin' and bounce to the heavens! The fans were very enthusiastic and I remembered again, how blessed I am to be a part of this sport. If you would like to see pictures from these events and get even more info, please check out the Miss Rode Tennessee web sight at www.mrtnpageant.com

Next up is Greeley, Colorado followed by the PRCA Rodeo in Savannah, Tennessee - then Pikes Peek or Bust, the Pro Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Colorado Springs, followed by the Miss Rodeo America clinic...all in Colorado. Then off to Cheyenne Frontier Days! I will do my best to keep everyone updated on my adventures!
